Retain Checkout Fields with Session Cookies

Is it possible to retain info in the checkout fields if a customer has not logged in yet? That way if they continue shopping and return to the checkout fields the info would still be there?

Good question - we don't currently store all of the checkout field values into the user's session for security. If they hit the checkout, but abandon it part way through - if someone else then goes back to the checkout after them, if we re-filled all of that information they could pull information about that person. Some information does persist, such as the postal code, city and state - but no other identifying information is maintained.

By utilising accounts and SSO the customer could be automatically logged in on hitting the checkout - but that wouldn't help with guest or initial checkouts.
