XML datafeed

I'm having a heck of a time getting started with XML datafeed.
1) The error message in the FoxyCart Error Log is not helping me solve the problem.

Datafeed failed? how? Bad URL or what? There isn't anything in my server logs either with foxycart.com or 216.75.32.56 as the ip.

2) One wild guess is that the feed needs to be to a https (despite being rc4). I've searched but can't find anything that says the datafeed URL has to be https or can be http.

Totally stumped.

Check out the 2 testing scripts here: http://wiki.foxycart.com/integration?datasrt=&dataflt=tags:datafeed

The easiest thing to do is to use the one to write the XML to a file on your server, so you know exactly what FoxyCart is sending, then copy that out and stick it into the other script to post yourself XML in the exact same way FoxyCart is posting it.

That's how I do things, at least. The error you're seeing is pretty much just an indication that your processing script didn't return "foxy". We don't currently offer more advanced error logging of the datafeed.

Does that help? Let me know. We probably need to add a page in our documentation describing the creation/testing process of a custom script. That'd probably help as well.

It most certainly would (if it's not written too opaquely, that is) :)
  • I would love to see a PHP script that parses the XML file! I'm getting ready to write one with SimpleXML to parse/store details in database and write a custom packing slip/shipping label, but it would be great if a code sample already existed. Like today. ; )

Hey Mike, have you checked the wiki documentation? There's a lot of examples there to get you started: http://wiki.foxycart.com/integration

On that integration page make sure you pay special attention to the 2 XML test scripts. Those will make it WAY easier for you to develop your own stuff.
