USPS Changes, Issues from 2011-01-02

USPS made some changes that have caused a few issues. We're starting this thread to unify a few others.

The changes USPS made had two direct issues:
1) The rates had a bunch of "garbage" as USPS started adding the (R) and (TM) symbols to the rates returned. This didn't prevent checkout but did look ugly.
2) USPS First Class Mail wasn't showing up for domestic shipping options.

We fixed the garbage earlier today, and soon after fixed the issue with First Class Mail, but in doing so discovered another issue where additional first class rates were being returned. We have a fix for that and will be pushing it to our production environment as soon as it's fully tested, which we anticipate being in the next 12 hours or sooner. We'll update this post and this thread as it happens.

We've just rolled out a fix for the extra First-Class Mail rates. Your store will now only show the domestic First Class options that you've selected.
  • Did this fix break setting FC.config.orderShipping?

Chuck: I'm not sure, can you whisper an example link?

FYI, first class rate requests seem to be down at the moment. We're currently on hold with USPS investigating the issue.

Sounds like the USPS team is really swamped... after being on hold for 30+ minutes, I did finally get through. They added our account to a priority list to spot check once they get the issue resolved. They are having trouble with their rate request system due to updates they've made for 2011. They mentioned they will get it fixed and have engineers who will be working on it until 11pm EST.
  • Not sure if this is new today or if it's been there for a while, but one of the shipping service names is currently coming through as "USPS Priority Mail International Flat Rate Envelope**", complete with those two asterisks.
