Address Validation

We have a client that is requesting Address Validation upon checkout. This is two fold, 1. verifying that the address is an accurate/real address (possibly accomplish this with a ping to USPS; and 2. Confirming if the address is classified as commercial or residential. #2 is the most pressing request and they are losing a lot of money by not knowing the classification of the ship to address. Can you give us an update on if this is part of your development roadmap and if so, when this will be implemented?

Hey akswhitaker. We're currently working on a complete rebuild of our shipping system and address verification is definitely on the roadmap. The residential vs. commercial one has been interesting though. Some carriers don't provide that information as ask that it be sent with the rate request. As we get closer to rolling that out, we'll definitely be looking at all available options for those needs. There's probably already a note for that, but if not, please add one here:
  • Thanks Luke. I went ahead and added a comment to the thread you included. Do you all have a target roll out date for the shipping system rebuild?

    Thanks again!

    Hi Andy,

Unfortunately we don't have a timeframe we can give you - but we do want to get it out as soon as possible.
  • Hello from the future! Did you guys ever end up implementing this?

Thanks for checking in! We have introduced address validation as part of our tax integration with Avalara in 2.0, but that requires that you're paying for their service to make use of that. We do plan to open that up more to allow for other providers too and custom implementations, but we don't have a timeframe for when that will happen just yet.
