Maestro/Solo/Switch debit cards

I'm in the UK and I'm looking into the possibility of using FoxCart on a couple of Expression Engine based sites.

I think using that using UK Paypal Payflow Pro should be fine but will the customer be able to use Maestro/Solo/Switch debit cards? It looks like Paypal accept them but presumably they need an issue number sent through to them?

These cards are widely used in the UK.

Thanks for your help.

Please vote for that feature here:

We're well aware that we need to add support for non-credit debit cards for our UK users, and it's definitely towards the top of the list. No guarantees on when we'll be able to get to it, but it's a big blip on our radar that we'll be addressing as soon as we are able.

Yeah, we've actually started on it already to some small degree, but it will involve changes to the front-end checkout user interface, which will require a new release. We're working on getting 0.4.0 out the door so it's pretty much on a feature freeze. Hopefully Switch/Maestro/Solo (and its issue number / start date / end date requirements) will be added after that.
Thanks for voting. We'll keep doing our best to focus our efforts on the things the Foxy community needs most.
  • Ok guys, thanks for letting me know...
Maestro and other debit cards are a must really for e-commerce in the uk, don't s'pose a financial incentive could get it rolled out in 0.4.0 :-)
  • How many times are we allowed to vote for feature requests? =P

Yeah, Maestro/Solo/Switch would be awesome, they are very widely used in the UK...
  • Can you please confirm whether or not FoxyCart accept Visa Debit

    Many thanks
  • It doesn't that's the point of voting for debit cards! It will be a welcomed addition to for the UK users of Foxy.

Actually, if it's a Visa or Mastercard, it _should_ work normally. It's the debit cards that _aren't_ Visa or MC branded that can have issues. In the US pretty much all debit cards are either Visa or Mastercard. In other countries it may be unheard of to have a debit card that also has the Visa or MC logo on it.

But yes, we know non-Visa/MC debit card support is eagerly anticipated ;)
We're working on it, and thanks as always for voting and helping us make FoxyCart everything you need it to be.
  • Any idea when this feature will be implemented?

Unfortunately, no. We talked about trying to get it into the next version, but it may or may not make it. Sorry we can't be more detailed, there's just a lot to accomplish and right now paypal standard is a really big need we're currently focusing on.

Unfortunately, being UK based there is no way I couldn't offer customers the ability to pay by Maestro so this is critical to being able to use FoxyCart.

Fwiw, we've had reports that debit cards do actually work with FoxyCart. Also, we're in the process of adding official support for debit cards. Still no guarantees, but it does look like it'll make it into our next version.

Yes, we have committed the first version of this into our next release to support the issue number and start date for Solo and Maestro cards. If you haven't already, please vote for that here so you'll be alerted when it is complete:

Euan: question about the start date. Is that always a date in the past or could it be a date in the future as well? If we had a select box that goes back 15 years, would that be ok? We've developed it so that on change for the payment card field it will show the start date and issue number fields dynamically based on the card number.
