Ability to update the cart at checkout

freshjonesfreshjones Member
in Bugs & Feature Requests edited April 2012
Hi, My client would like to be able to allow users the ability to update their cart on the checkout page, or to modify the cart and come back to the checkout page without loosing any previously entered data. Are either of these options something that I could make work?

thanks

    @freshjones,

    Unfortunately with the way the checkout is setup, an editable cart is not currently possible. We are aware that it's a feature that a lot of people want and is something we're planning to implement soon. If you'd like to vote for it so you can be notified of developements, you can do that here: http://requests.foxycart.com/

    That said though, depending how complex your product setup is, you could conceivably setup a jsonp approach on your checkout that allowed customers to edit the cart and send off jsonp requests to update the actual cart. While this approach has worked for other people, the hard part comes in when you start to work with taxes and shipping. You'll need to make sure everything is calculating correctly live as customers update their cart.

    @freshjones -

    It isn't an ideal setup, but one thing we've done for a client in the past is fire off some changes using the JSONP and then forced a reload of the checkout page to ensure that all shipping and taxes are correct. A force reload has it's own issues - like requiring customers to enter data again if they had already entered something - but it might be a possible solution for you.
