USPS and tracking...

I'm in the FC admin and have a store on 1.1. I see account connectivity for FedEx and UPS, but nothing for USPS. My client will need to offer tracking to their clients if they use USPS. Is that available for any 3rd party plugins that integrate with FC?

    @flinx777,

    Unfortunately we don't currently offer USPS account integration, but we also don't offer tracking services for the other carriers either at this point. The ability to enter account information is to assist with getting negotiated rates from the carriers directly.

    In terms of 3rd party plugins, I know that Order Desk does integrate with a couple different shipping endpoints - but I'm not sure if that covers USPS or not. Details on Order Desk here: https://foxytools.com/orderdesk/ - and @sparkweb will be able to chime in if it does indeed have any sort of connectivity to USPS or not.

    USPS doesn't offer discounted rates so there's not really any reason to load your own account information in when getting rates. USPS is also different from UPS and FedEx in that the only companies who are able to print postage are stamps.com, Pitney Bowes, and Endicia. Fortunately, these companies open up their API's and there is some support from outside orgs. I'd look into ShipStation: http://mbsy.co/w3C. Order Desk supports a third-party integration into ShipStation so you can use Order Desk as the go-between to pass your FoxyCart orders into ShipStation's service and you can print USPS postage with Endicia from there.
  • Thanks everyone for your response. The client responded today and said they only want to use FedEx, so hopefully the orderdesk option will work perfectly for us.

    Thanks!

    You'll still have to use something like ShipStation for printing the labels. Order Desk doesn't do the label printing (yet).

    I believe that the USPS does offer discounted rates via their "online price". I am converting an old CubeCart store to foxycart and the shipping rates cubecart calculates differs from foxycart. In the cubecart set up my client has entered their USPS account number (actually it is their USPS username.)

    A few years back this was brought up in the forums here:

    https://forum.foxycart.com/discussion/4654/post-office-price-vs-paid-online-rates/p1

    At any rate, I would like to access the USPS "online pricing", any ideas if that can be done?

    @joem,

    Unfortunately we still don't provide a way to provide account details for USPS - sorry! Lance's advice in the forum thread you linked to is still your best bet - if you can work out what sort of discount the online rates provide, you could discount the rates on the checkout yourself. We have a snippet that can help with that - live rates shipping modification available here: http://wiki.foxycart.com/snippets/start
