Way to Include Customer Name in Email Receipt?

Hi folks. I expect the answer to this is no, but just in case...you know how you can have a copy of a customer's email receipt sent to the store as well? Is there any way to either:

A) Have the From for the copy the store receives appear as the customer's name, or...

B) Put a placeholder in the Subject line that includes the customer's name?

Here's the issue I'm trying to solve. Because my client's orders sometimes take longer to fill than customers expect, he gets at least a half dozen emails a month inquiring into the state of an order. While we do include the order # in the Subject line of email receipts, the customers rarely refer to them in their emails. So it becomes a laborious process of sifting through receipt emails trying to find the one that belongs to the customer to remind ourselves what he ordered and when. Using receipt emails as the basis for filling orders is rinky-dink I know (don't even get me started) but it's the way the client insists on doing things.

Good question. So you're asking for placeholders like ^^name_first^^ and ^^name_last^^ to be able to be used in email subject lines?

What mail client is he using that he can't run a quick search? Not to be argumentative or anything, just curious. Often subjects are long and get cut off anyway, so (for me at least) it'd be much easier to search for a name rather than visually scan truncated subject lines.

Go ahead and make a request here in any case: http://requests.foxycart.com/
In the meantime you could definitely play with the custom email script here: http://wiki.foxycart.com/integration, which doesn't handle multiship but should be a good starting point if you wanted to change the "from" address or make a custom subject line. I haven't looked at the code in a while but it should be relatively easy to get going.
  • Just curious. So far I haven't seen anywhere on the forum that I can also do what bushy asked above.
My client would like to see the customer name in the subject line of the email receipt.
Can I just use something like ^^order_id^^ but for customer name?
    And what would that be?

Unfortunately this hasn't been added to the app at this point. The best solution is still what Brett mentioned above for rolling your own email receipts using the XML datafeed.

This is super-old (version 0.2) so I'm not sure how well it will work, but it might be a good starting point. http://wiki.foxycart.com/integration/foxycart/custom_receipt
