Remote store domain

When you select remote store domain in foxycart, it mentions how it costs an additional $90 per year. However, the wiki (http://wiki.foxycart.com/docs:remotedomain:setup) only mentions the SSL cert being the additional cost.

Is the $90 simply the cost of the SSL cert? Lets say that I already had a SSL cert, would it still be $90 for a remote store domain?

    Give this a read:

In short, we need to get the cert for you since it needs to installed on our servers. While it's technically possible to take an existing cert and move it to our server, it's more trouble than it's worth. (We may eventually make that more of a possibility, but it'd still be an additional cost for reasons mentioned in the above linked thread, and you'd need to rekey and reissue your cert. Certs are usually much more complicated than they need to be, so we'd then be dealing with an additional support burden helping users figure out how Provider XYZ doesn't actually support rekeying, or etc.)

Hopefully that's helpful. If you have additional questions let us know.
  • Alright. I was just wondering because my hosting plan comes with a free SSL cert and unique ip. (The Dreamhost non-profit plan is very generous!)

It might make it easier for you to use your templates, as you wouldn't have to cache things. Then again, our automagicache is fairly easy, so that's not really an issue to begin with ;)
