The basic rule of thumb is that if you can build the add-to-cart form, FoxyCart can handle the input. The cart doesn't care if inputs are radios or textareas or select boxes, if they're optional or required.
When creating your add to cart links for downloadable products, you just and must pass product code and its category ( That you have configured in admin ) .
That actually depends how you approach it. If your web is static then definitely you have to, as you are creating/adding pages for hundreds of products by hand .
